Google's AI Overviews sit at the very top of many results pages: a synthesized answer with a handful of cited sources. Being one of those sources is the new page-one — and it's earned with the fundamentals, applied well.
AI Overviews run on the index
Overviews are generated from content Google has already crawled and indexed. That means classic technical SEO — crawlability, speed, clean structure, internal links — is the foundation, not an afterthought.
Write the liftable answer
Put a direct, self-contained answer near the top of the page, use descriptive headings, and add an FAQ section with FAQ structured data. Give Google a clean sentence to quote and attribute to you.
Structured data and freshness
Mark up your business, services, and FAQs so the facts are unambiguous, and keep pages current — freshness is a quality signal. Accurate structured data reduces the chance of being summarized incorrectly.
For local questions
When the query is local ('best [category] near me'), your Google Business Profile, consistent NAP, and recent reviews do much of the work in deciding who the Overview names. Treat them as core SEO, not extras.
